To introduce students to analytical problem solving techniques used in the Accounting profession.
The role of analytical problem solving techniques in Accounting. Principles in collecting accounting data: types of data, sources of data, sampling methods, attributes and variables in sampling techniques for auditing. Choosing appropriate problem solving procedures. Reporting. Basic descriptive summaries, business graphics, correlation, simple linear regression, index numbers, time series. Confidence, tolerance and prediction intervals, and sample size calculations. Application of hypothesis testing procedures in accounting. Project appraisal techniques. Use of appropriate computer software.
