To further develop students’ spoken and written communication skills in English as an Additional (second or foreign) Language at an introductory level.
Students will further develop an understanding of English as an academic language for undergraduate university study and its necessity for study and employment in English-speaking contexts (Australia and other Anglophone countries). Students are encouraged to reflect on language learning processes while they focus on the further development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students will develop critical and analytical reading and writing skills, focussing on the genres of writing found in academic and professional contexts. There is an emphasis on expanding the student’s corpus of English [through key grammatical concepts and structures (syntax), vocabulary (lexis) and expressive use of the language].
