To develop students’ spoken and written communication skills in English as an Additional Language (foreign and second language) at an introductory level for use as an academic language for undergraduate university study.
Students will develop English as an Additional Language (foreign and second language) at an introductory level, which is necessary for university study and employment opportunities in English-speaking contexts, such as Australia. Students will learn how to use their own language/s to advance their proficiency in English. This course includes a strong focus on the reading and writing of reflective, biographic, and descriptive texts in parallel with listening and speaking skills’ development in English. There is an emphasis on the corpus of English [through key grammatical concepts and structures (syntax), vocabulary (lexis) and expressive use of the language]. Students develop an understanding of how to use bi/multilingual theory and methodology to extend their use of English.
