To familiarise students with the terms, concepts, techniques, processes, skills, technologies and theoretical underpinning of 3D animation for multimedia production and other forms of visual communication.
The development cycle: ideas; component and storyboard development, the art of 3D animation: timing, movement , key framing, expression controllers; the 3d environment: scale, work flow, workspace, XYZ space; modelling techniques: polygons, N.U.R.B.S. texturing techniques: procedural, textural options, basic hypershader nodes; lighting types and techniques: spotlights, directional lights, ambient lights, area lights, coloured lights, aiming and positioning; production of computer animation pieces; production skills and techniques: rendering essentials, render variations, formats and file types, global options.
