Course aim

To familiarise students with 2D animation and interactive animation for multimedia production and other forms of visual communication.

Course content

The development cycle: idea, content and script development; computer image production through drawing, scanning, digitising and frame grabbing; tools for editing and creating animation: image editing and manipulation software; formats: vector and bitmap graphics; the art of 2D animation: timing, movement; animation techniques: scripting, storyboarding, cell animation, path animation, key framing, tweening, squash and stretch, ease-in and ease-out, cycles and film loops; linear and non-linear production techniques; critical analysis of the application of animation to multimedia: games, entertainment, education and promotional multimedia; production of multimedia computer animation pieces.
