This course aims to enable students to apply the study of the socio-cultural dimension of hospitality to professional work settings and pursue a pathway for further learning. Students undertaking this course will have a broad and coherent body of knowledge, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts relating to both the supply and demand perspectives of hospitality.
Hospitality as a field of study and vocational pursuit; continuities in the history of hospitality provision; significance of women’s role in hospitality provision, structure and organisation of the hospitality industry, nature of service provision, socio-cultural dimensions of hospitality consumption; implications of hospitality as a performance; issues relating to internationalisation and cross-cultural contact in the hospitality industry; working in the hospitality industry, future of the hospitality industry.
