To enable students to develop, extend and apply theories, principles and processes of urban design to a real-world project in collaboration with industry professionals with a view to developing strategies and design proposals.
Students will develop their understanding of urban design as an inclusive, multi-disciplinary and collaborative process through the shaping of public space at various scales from lanes, streets and squares, to neighbourhoods and cities. Students will develop knowledge of planning and urban design theories, dimensions, principles, elements and technology grounded in urban development practice. Through an understanding of the multiple factors that influence urban form and public space, students will develop a strategic approach to long term sustainability that informs design proposals.
