Course aim

To enable the student to engage in the development of his/her social work practice, in a supported learning environment, and located in a practice setting.

Course content

Students will complete a 500 hour placement in which their professional selves will be developed. Using theory in practice will involve understanding the role of values and ethics, process and purpose, the professional relationship, accountability and competence, approaches to intervention strategies.

All first and second year (and third year for double degree students) courses of the program Bachelor of Social Work, with the exception of the first year elective. Students are required to have undertaken a criminal history screening through the Department of Families and Communities and to have completed a 1 day Child Safe Environments Course. Some placements may require students to hold a current drivers licence and recognised First Aid Certificate.
