Course aim

To develop knowledge and application of fundamental electronic circuits and physical electronics of some key semiconductor devices, including design, construction and testing of experimental electronic circuits.

Course content

Electronic devices: construction and operation of discrete devices; p-n junction diodes; current-voltage (I-V) diode characteristics; special diodes. Diode circuit applications.

Power Supplies: rectification; filtering, regulation; IC regulators.

Bipolar junction transistors: dc models; modes of operation; amplifier configurations.

Field-effect transistors: MOSFETs; JFETs; amplifiers.

Amplifier circuits: Bias and stabilisation, graphical analysis, small-signal ac models, multi-stage amplifiers, direct-coupled amplifiers.

Transistor applications in digital logic; inverter principle; CMOS inverter transfer characteristic; Emitter coupled logic design.
