To develop students’ advanced knowledge of design and construction documentation conventions and competence in applying research and architectural processes, strategies, and practices to architectural-design studio project/s of increasing complexity and scale.
Students will develop and apply skills and knowledge in the context of theories of culture, value, tectonics and technology and their integration in the design and resolution of buildings and environments of increasing complexity, and their professional responsibilities to clients, society, and the environment.
Students will enhance the management of the documentation process by acquiring skills in planning, organising, and controlling design development and the coordination of the project team. Students will also gain skills in project management through project definition, feasibility and appraisal, time, cost, quality, risk, procurement, organisational structures and communication, computer software and scheduling tools, project commissioning and handover, evaluation, and feedback. Students will synthesise the development of a complex building design into a comprehensive set of contract documents by incorporating complex design intentions and the principles of building structures, building services, building regulation and codes, construction systems, and materials.
Students will develop and apply skills and knowledge specific to NSCA (National Standard of Competency for Architects) criteria: 3.4, 3.7, 4.4, 4.5, 4.7, 5.3, 5.5, 6.2, 6.4, and 6.5.
