To provide students with a knowledge of the theory of linear models and their use in analysing data and to introduce them to the basic principles in designing experiments.
The; Experimental design: basic principles, complete block and row-column designs; complete and fractional factorial designs; nested designs. Analysis of experiments: mixed models, estimation, hypothesis testing, investigation of mean differences, diagnostic checking and power of F-tests. General linear (mixed) model theory in the analysis of designed experiments. A statistical package will be used. Practical projects will be undertaken.
