To enable the student to develop their framework for social work practice based on their knowledge of the range of social work theories and intervention approaches; and to critically analyse their framework in the context of diverse social identities within society; and contribute to the debates on contested positions in social work knowledge.
Contemporary practice approaches; contested positions on social work approaches; application of different social work approaches to case studies; historical development of social work thinking; the place of major schools of social work thinking; liberation/oppression; gender; structural; individual behaviour; empowerment; racism/discrimination; identity and action; critical theory; post-structuralist theory; narrative therapy; feminist models of social work practice and reflective practice.
