To extend the students knowledge and understanding of some of the laws, principles and theories of physics, chemistry and biology, and to develop an appreciation of how these laws, principles and theories operate in experimental and applied science.
Computational investigations of physical, chemical and biological systems using a variety of numerical techniques and software packages. Topics covered include; spectral analysis, molecular dynamics simulations, modelling continuous systems, Fourier analysis, signal processing, monte-carlo simulation, simulation integrity, renormalisation, image processing, and molecular modelling.
The practical component emphasises the computational modelling of the physical systems covered in the workshop/lecture modules and the analysis of the measured data.
