Course aim

To provide students with knowledge and experience of the techniques, tools and processes used to analyse complex systems.

Course content

The role and applicability of mathematical analysis in systems engineering. Introduction to mathematical techniques in decision making. Decision analysis for design trades. Introduction to models for operational evaluation. Introduction to classical liner and non-linear optimisation theory, constrained and unconstrained classical optimisation, optimisation and multiple criteria, constrained optimisation by linear and dynamic programming. Introduction to queuing theory and its application to maintenance engineering. Program management analysis: PERT and critical path analysis. Engineering Statistics.
