Research Methods and Issues in Language and Literacy Education

Course aim

This course is intended to:

• build upon your previous studies
• introduce you to some research methodologies for language and literacy education
• prepare you for a project or an independent research investigation you may do in the near future

in the course of ‘Project in Language education’ or ‘Investigation in Language and Literacy Education’

Course content

Initially, students examine ethical and political issues in research. From the perspective of a study they could conduct in their own context, students consider how the research may position them and their courses and the relation of the research to the socio-political context in which it will be conducted.
Students explore two approaches to generating and analysing data in literacy research. Students also apply their knowledge and skill by either developing a research proposal or undertaking a critical review of published research in a chosen field.
