To provide students with an overview of the research methods and possibilities available to them, opportunities to clarify their research agenda and opportunities to identify the research methods appropriate to their research agenda and context(s).
The major research paradigms - positivist, hermeneutic, critical and postcritical-and their epistemological bases; major debates e.g. the quantitative/qualitative, empirical/ theoretical constructions; ethical, representational and evidence questions; methodological options e.g. survey, ethnography, case study, action research, narrative; history of and current issues in practitioner research; strategies for reading research methodologically.
