To acquaint students with the historical development of and current trends in media technologies and international communication.

Course content

Technologies and societies: historical precedents; Press: historical precedents; cinema: historical precedents; Electronic media; Media and images; The sounds of music; Global controls of information; Information, knowledge, society; Media and self: the media mirrors; the globalisation of identity; possibilities for freedom and resistance; The Internet and WWW; Globalisation and the future of communications; The emergence of the hypermedia environment; Distributional changes in postmodern world order transformation; Social epistemology changes in postmodern world order transformation.
