Course aim

To advance students’ pedagogical skills and repertoires for the teaching of technological and design literacy in middle and secondary schools.

Course content

Elaborate curriculum analysis; Gender and Design and Technology; Sustainability; Technologies and the democratic process; Analysis and application of students’ prior studies, learning and experience; Analysis of design and technological processes; Understandings of student cultural diversity and varied educational needs; Learning and intelligence theories and their applications in Design and Technology Education; Clarification of specialist and generalist educational needs of Design and Technology school students; Experiential brief and project work, development of varied small and medium scale teaching packages for school students. Synthesis of the above into quality learning experiences for a diverse range of school students while addressing motivation, planning, resourcing, assessment and evaluation issues.
