Course aim

To familiarise students with the assessment, prevention and control of some specific safety risks in the working environment.

Course content

For each of the specific hazards of fire and explosion; dangerous goods; plant; electricity and confined spaces, the following will be covered:

  • basic concept -- definitions, terminology, nature of hazards;
  • relevant legislation and standards;
  • prevention and control measures;
  • emergency planning and response;
  • case studies of high risk industries (including mining, construction, farming).
