Course aim

To familiarise students with the fundamentals of occupational health and safety (OH&S) management, legislation and the organisation for OH&S in Australia at state and federal levels.

Course content

Historical perspective on socio-legal issues - the British factory legislation, Robens Report and other key influences. The Constitutional, common law, statute law and administrative framework for OH&S. Introduction to injury causation, hazard identification, risk assessment and control. Interface between OHS, workers' compensation, EEO and industrial relations. Principles and systems for OH&S management
