Course aim

This course will give students a sound understanding of: sport and recreation governance, structure and delivery systems for sport and recreation; income generation, volunteer management and governance in the not-for-profit sector, and the legislative and policy frameworks that underpin sport and recreation organisations.

Course content

The following topics will be covered:
Professionalism, globalisation and commercialism in sport and recreation; structure of sport in Australia; sport governance; ethics in sport and recreation; incorporation, constitutions; structure of clubs, boards and committees in sport and recreation organisations; delivery systems for sport and recreation; working with volunteers; sport and recreation organisation cultures; the business of Sport and Recreation; income generation, including membership, grants, sponsorship and fundraising; risk management and insurance as it applies to sport and recreation organisations.
