Course aim

This course is designed to develop in students a basic understanding of some fundamentals of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. At the end of the course, the students should be able to apply this knowledge to the analysis of common engineering systems.

Course content

Fluid Mechanics: Units and Dimensions; Fluid Properties; Fluid Statics; One-dimensional Flow of Incompressible Fluids: Continuity, Energy and Momentum Equations; Flow Measurements, Laminar and Turbulent Flow, Ducts and Open Channels; Flow Over Immersed Bodies, Viscous Flow; Lift and Drag; Analysis of Pipe Flow Systems; Fluid Machinery
Heat Transfer: Introduction to Conduction, Convection and Radiation Heat Transfer, Thermal Insulation.
