Course aim

To provide students with an understanding of the importance of urban planning to the social and environmental aspects of the built environment, and to provide students with an understanding of fundamental micro and macro economics principles with particular reference to the built environment.

What is Sustainable Built Environment?; Indigenous Australian culture and the Built Environment; The planning System in South Australia; Tools for assessing Sustainability; Designing Sustainable Built Environments; Translating Sustainable Design into Reality; What does the Future Hold for built urban environments?; Introduction to Economics; Market Mechanism: Demand, Supply and Equilibrium Process; Costs, Revenues and Pricing and their Application to Construction Firms; Market Structures; The National Economy and Government Policy; Monetary Policy and Interest Rates.
