Course aim

To provide students with an understanding of traditional procurement methods and standard forms of contract for construction projects, including an in-depth legal analysis of key contractual clauses to be found in commonly used standard forms of construction contracts for contract administration purposes.

Course content

Traditional procurement options. Standard forms of building contracts. Responsibilities of Employer, Contractor and Superintendent in construction contracts. Extensions of time and liquidated damages; Progress payment claims and certificates. Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Legislation. Bills of Quantities and Variations. Construction project insurances. Construction contract securities. Practical and final completion of construction contracts. Latent conditions. Construction contract determination. Arbitration agreements and dispute resolution clauses.
