Course aim

To introduce students to contemporary Indigenous writing, performance and cinema, and to examine texts produced within the discourses of Indigenous Knowledge and social theory.

Course content

Production of contemporary Aboriginal texts; critical comparisons with Indigenous writing from other first nations peoples; construction of Aboriginal identity by Australian colonial and post-colonial society; investigate Aboriginal constructions of self; analyse non-Indigenous historical and contemporary representations of Aboriginal people; Indigenous literature, history and cinema; Indigenous and non-Indigenous post-colonial theory.
