Transport Policy

Course aim

To encourage students to see beyond the perspective of any one disciplinary viewpoint in understanding both the roles of the various players within the transport policy community and the place of transport policy in achieving overall societal goals.

Course content

Setting transport policy and objectives: the role of governments in the provision of transport needs; the political, economic and financial context in which transport policy is made; the roles of politicians, public servants and other advisers. Implementation strategies using the public and private sectors: departments and public corporations; regulation and deregulation; contracting and other forms of funding.
