To familiarise students with current thinking about patterns of development in children aged birth to 3 years.
Theories, themes and principles of child development; principles and concepts of nurture; general principles of communication, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development conception to three years and how to foster these; early brain growth and function, parents and family, their influences on children’s development and partnerships with parents; descriptive observation techniques; principles and processes of planning for care, curriculum development and quality standards; reflective practice in examining personal values and belief.
