Course aim

To familiarise students with current international and Australian thinking about patterns of development in children aged birth - 3 years, language development birth to 8 years, and factors which enhance or are deleterious to that development

Course content

Theories, themes and principles of child development; principles and concepts of nurture; importance of the parent role, involvement, contribution, expertise and responsibilities; importance of family in Indigenous cultures and their influences on children’s development; general principles of social, emotional, cognitive and language development; biological foundations of conception, pre and post natal perceptual motor development; brain growth and function, accessing information; observation techniques.
