Course aim

To provide students with a knowledge of manufacturing systems and manufacturing competitiveness through strategic planning.

Course content

Functions of manufacturing systems, types of production and facility layout, manufacturing lead time and work-in-progress. Concurrent engineering, JIT manufacturing systems, Group Technology and cellular manufacturing systems, flexible manufacturing systems, CIM and enterprise integration. Strategic thinking, internal strengths and weaknesses, strategic planning, manufacturing strategy, small business strategy, multi-national strategies.
