Park and Wilderness Management

Course aim

To provide students with the essential skills they need to make effective contributions to discourse on the subject of protected area management; and the ability to competently apply and appropriate protected area management technique is a particular resource/visitor context.

Course content

The course is divided into three components: (1) an introduction which provides a global overview and historic perspective, as well as discussion of who visits parks, why and barriers to use; (2) a discussion of strategies aimed at protected resources while maintaining quality visitor experiences and (3) a section on current issues and future trends, including financing parks, risk management and building capacity.
