Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

The Bachelor of Sustainable Environments has been designed to meet the needs of government, business and industry, to supply graduates with a broad knowledge of environmental sustainability and provide specialisation in one of three awards.

Content & Structure

Students are required to complete 108 units of study for the successful completion of the program. The program consists of a first year which is common to all four awards. This lays a foundation to the following two years in which one of four awards may be further pursued. Students may elect to change awards at the end of year one. The awards are Geospatial Information System, Geographical and Earth Systems, Environmental Protection and Management and Biodiversity and Park Management.

Notes

1. The program is offered on a three-year full-time basis. The program can also be taken on a part-time basis.

2. Credit will not be granted for more than 66% of the total units of the program.

3. Electives: Some electives will only be offered if sufficient enrolments are received, so may not be available in all years. There may be limited numbers of enrolment places in some field-based electives. Prerequisites may apply to some electives Additional electives are available from the Schools of Mathematics and Statistics, Pharmacy and Medical Sciences and International Business, following approval of the Program Director.

4. A number of courses include a field component (which will vary in length and distance travelled and may incur additional charges)

5. These courses are normally held in Study Period 1 (Summer School).

6. The course Ecotourism: Sustainable Environments and Community is offered every alternate year, (available even years only).

7. The course Geomorphology from Space is normally offered in Study Period 6 (mid semester break) and is taught by intensive mode.
