Course aim

To familiarise students with the broad concepts and procedures of transport systems planning including railway planning and operations, public transport systems planning and service design, and the planning and operation of airports, harbours and terminals.

Course content

Overview of transport technology including rail and guide way systems; markets for public transport; service design parameters; performance evaluation; fleet management; policy context for public transport operations; rail track performance; operation and scheduling of trains; airport planning and layout; passenger terminal design; airport design standards and procedures; planning and design of harbours and port facilities; passenger and freight terminal design.
