Course aim

To understand how children develop mathematical ideas and understandings prior to their entry to school; to consolidate students’ understanding of the purposes and meanings for using mathematical knowledge; to provide students with an opportunity to develop their ability to use processes of mathematical thinking and working.

Course content

The place of mathematics in Anangu lifestyle, culture and language; mathematical tools used in, and their contributions to, community lifestyle; importance of mathematics learning at home; purposes for and meanings of mathematical knowledge in adult society; Action Research into mathematics in students’ own communities.
