Course overview
Upskill rapidly with a Professional Certificate specifically designed for Defence and related industry personnel. Delivered fully online, this Professional Certificate can be taken as a stand-alone course, as a building block as part of the UniSA Defence Professional Certificates or may also be used as credit for the Master of Systems Engineering.
The Professional Certificate in Model Based Systems Engineering provides you with the ability to build models for Systems Engineering purposes using SYSML (System Modelling Language) and OOSEM (Object Oriented Systems Engineering Methodology). This course provides an in-depth exploration of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), a modern approach to designing and managing complex systems using models throughout their lifecycle. Students will learn the core principles of MBSE, including system modeling, requirements analysis, system architecture, design, simulation, verification, and validation. The students will use the tool Enterprise Architect (Sparx Systems) for hands-on exercises and case studies, and will gain proficiency in using the modeling tool and the SysML language to capture and communicate system behaviors, structures, and interactions. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the skills to apply MBSE methodologies to real-world engineering challenges, enhancing collaboration, reducing risks, and ensuring system integrity across the development lifecycle.

Course Structure
This Professional Certificate has two short courses within it. This allows the flexibility to undertake the Professional Certificate in two ways.
- Content only which includes directed study over a short period. You will receive a Certificate of Completion for the audit only course.
- Content and Assessment which includes directed study over a short period plus additional activities and assessment. You will receive a Professional Certificate on completion.
Successful completion of both the Content and Assessment courses within the professional certificate can be used as credit into the Master of Systems Engineering against the equivalent course.
Course Schedules.
- 7 weeks of content delivery
- 7 weeks of optional assessment.
- Weekly online live tutorials scheduled at convenient time for all attendees (usually after 5 pm)
- Recorded lectures and interactive online learning resources.
- Assessment include essay, individual assignment and a group assignment.
