Applicants will be required to have completed a Bachelor degree, Graduate Certificate, or a Graduate Diploma in a relevant discipline from a recognised higher education institution.
Relevant disciplines for entry typically include engineering (aeronautics, astronautics, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical, nuclear, software, systems), chemistry, physics, computer science, or mathematics. Applicants with qualifications in other disciplines are encouraged to apply and will be assessed on a case by case basis.
Applicants who have:
This program consists of 54 units of study. In the first year, students will focus on the principles of systems engineering and test and evaluation. Students also have the opportunity to study elective courses of their choice to broaden their knowledge and skills. In the final semester, students learn how to successfully apply the principles and concepts of systems engineering that they have gained in previous courses in order to plan, organise, staff, monitor and control the process of designing, developing, testing and producing a major new military/engineering capability that can be based on a real-world scenario. Students then have the option of continuing on with executing their plan under the guidance of industry and academic supervision, or expanding their knowledge in engineering management and integrated logistics support.
The University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia are combining their strengths to create a new university for the future, Adelaide University, opening in January 2026.
From 4 August 2025, the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia will no longer be accepting applications for new students.
