Course overview

Upskill rapidly with a Professional Certificate specifically designed for Defence and related industry personnel. Delivered fully online, this Professional Certificate can be taken as a stand-alone course, as a building block as part of the UniSA Defence Professional Certificates or may also be used as credit for the Master of Systems Engineering.

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), a vital discipline in ensuring the efficiency, sustainability, and readiness of complex systems throughout their lifecycle. Participants will explore the key principles of ILS, including planning and designing support systems through supportability analysis, and maintenance and sustainment strategies. The course covers essential topics such as logistics planning, reliability, maintainability and availability, spare parts management, support system elements, training, testing etc. Students will gain practical insights into how to integrate logistics considerations into system development, optimize lifecycle costs, and enhance operational performance. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the role of ILS in delivering effective and cost-efficient solutions for both commercial and defence sectors.

Course content

  • Scope and elements in logistics, logistics planning, logistics in the system life cycle, logistics engineering;
  • Measures of logistics;
  • System feasibility analysis, system operational requirements, maintenance and support concept, technical performance measures, functional analysis, allocation of requirements, synthesis, analysis and design optimization;
  • Supportability analysis process, methods, tools and applications;
  • Logistics in design, manufacturing and support.

Course Structure

This Professional Certificate has two short courses within it. This allows the flexibility to undertake the Professional Certificate in two ways.

  • Content only which includes directed study over a short period. You will receive a Certificate of Completion for the audit only course.
  • Content and Assessment which includes directed study over a short period plus additional activities and assessment. You will receive a Professional Certificate on completion.

Successful completion of both the Content and Assessment courses within the professional certificate can be used as credit into the Master of Systems Engineering against the equivalent course.

Course Schedules

  • 7 weeks of content delivery.
  • 7 weeks of optional assessment.
  • Weekly online live tutorials scheduled at convenient time for all attendees (usually after 5 pm).
  • Recorded lectures and interactive online learning resources.
  • Assessment include essay, individual assignment and a group assignment.

Entry Requirements
