Description

Students studying the Applied Linguistics major, sub major or minor will graduate with a broad and coherent body of knowledge in applied linguistics, from the nature of human language and language development to communication both in monolingual and multilingual settings, and with the ability to apply new knowledge and skills in professional settings relevant to their particular interests.

The Applied Linguistics Major, Sub Major and Minor has a strong theoretical, practical, community and industry focus in fields such as education, media, health, business, law and diplomacy. Students will engage with practice-based learning and the teaching-research nexus in their learning experiences, within the environment of a world-class research centre.

MAJOR
The Applied Linguistics MAJOR comprises all eight courses in this Schedule

Rules

  1. A sub-major in Applied Linguistics consists of six courses (27 units), two of which must be at Level 1 (Introductory), two at Level 2 (Intermediate) and two at Level 3 (Advanced).
  2. A minor in Applied Linguistics consists of four courses (18 units), two of which must be at Level 1 (Introductory) and two at Level 2 (Intermediate).
  3. A major in Applied Linguistics consists of eight courses (36 units), two of which must be at Level 1 (Introductory), two at Level 2 (Intermediate) and four at Level 3 (Advanced).

Notes

  1. Students select a 1A Language Course - French, Italian or Japanese OR LANG 2022
  2. Students intending to study English Language as their second major should consult with their Program Director for a revised schedule.
