Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to:

Qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), and

obtain a competitive ATAR, and
meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C-

Alternatively, applicants can fulfil one of the following requirements with a competitive result, and demonstrate that they fulfil any prerequisite requirements, and other academic requirements for the program:

Complete secondary education qualifications equivalent to SACE, or
Complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points, or
Complete or partly complete a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution, or
Complete at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at undergraduate level or above, or
Complete an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate IV level or above, or
Qualify for Special Entry, or
Complete a University Foundation Studies program

Aim

The Bachelor of Visual Arts (Sculpture) qualifies individuals to pursue creative practice, supported by specialised knowledge in research, in historical and contemporary art and culture and it allows graduates to undertake professional work, as well as providing pathways to further learning.

Content & Structure

Graduates of a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Sculpture) degree will have a broad knowledge of contemporary and historical visual arts practice and specialist knowledge and skills of a range of sculptural forms, materials, production techniques and installation, supported by in-depth studio practice, research and theoretical undertakings.

The students will complete 108 units of study comprising 36 units of specialisation in Sculpture, 40.5 units of core studio and theory studies, 27 units of visual arts electives and 4.5 units of free electives.

Rules & notes

Notes

1. Students must complete a specialisation of 36 units in Sculpture. Students select 2 x 4.5 unit courses from Sculpture. The remaining 27 units will comprise VSAR 2012 AAD Specialisation 3, VSAR 3005 AAD Specialisation 4 and VSAR 3006 AAD Specialisation 5.

2. The six Visual Arts Electives may be selected from any of the Electives listed on the program schedule. Not every Elective course will be offered every year.

3. All students complete one free elective as part of their undergraduate program of study. Students wishing to undertake an extra free elective (which may be required for students who wish to undertake a teaching qualification on completion of the program) will need to seek approval from the Program Director

4. Students who have a Grade Point Average of 4.5 or more and who wish to independently pursue a topic of interest not available from the courses offered in any one study period may choose either a research a or project-based negotiated study elective with the approval of the Program Director.
