Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and

completed 200 credits of subjects;
achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
obtained a competitive ATAR.

* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

Alternatively, applicants are required to have one of the following:

completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Diploma level or above;
qualified for Special Entry; or
completed University Foundation Studies program;

Completed one of the following professional courses:
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
MCSE + Internet and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)
Lotus Certified Professional (CLP)
Novell Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE)
Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)
Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Aim

The program is designed to educate students for a career as computer professionals specialising in multimedia. It provides a broad and fundamental understanding of the theory and practice of computers and information technology, plus specialist knowledge of multimedia concepts and techniques. The program prepares graduates for professional careers in the computing and multimedia industry in general, and specialist multimedia software development organisations in particular.

Content & Structure

This is a four year program in which computing and multimedia skills are developed in parallel during the first three years.

During the third and fourth year, students are able to choose from a range of elective courses in order to specialise in particular areas of computing and multimedia.

In the fourth year, students undertake a major multimedia development project.

The program requires the completion of 144 units of study, consisting of approximately 67.5 units of computing courses, 46 units of multimedia courses, an 18 unit final year project, and 13.5 units of other courses.

Notes

1. The Elective course may be selected from any School within the University.

2. Program and Course Availability: The program requires students to attend both the Magill campus and the Mawson Lakes campus. The multimedia courses are only available at the Magill campus. Some computing courses are available at both the Magill campus and the Mawson Lakes campus, and some are also available at the City West campus. Some courses in years 1 and 2 are offered in both study periods 2 or 5 and/or in distance mode and/or summer (Study Period 7).

3. Students must select one of the multimedia specialisations.

4. Students successfully completing this program may be awarded a degree with honours for meritorious performance in the program. These students will normally have a grade point average of 5 or above (credit level average), will be identified no later than the end of the third year of the program, and be invited to enrol in the honours plan prior to the start of the final year of the program. These students will enrol in the Multimedia project 1 (Honours) and Multimedia Project 2 (Honours) courses, the course INFT 4017 CIS Research Methods (in place of CIS Elective 1), and must obtain approval from their program director before enrolling in CIS Elective2.
