Entry requirements
Applicants would normally have completed a degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent qualification. Entry is competitive and experience in engineering and information technology and completion of professional qualifications will be taken into account.
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

This program provides graduates in Electrical and ICT (Information and Communications Technologies) oriented engineering disciplines with an advanced understanding of the current practice and technology in one of the following streams:

Computer Systems Engineering
Electrical Power Engineering
Microsystems Technology
Telecommunications
In addition, a general stream is available without a specialisation.

Content & Structure

Students are required to complete a total of 54 units of study to be eligible for the degree. The 54 units of study may consist of six courses (27 units) listed for the relevant specialisation stream and EITHER –

Engineering Research Practice (4.5 units), one course (4.5 units) listed in the Program Schedule of Courses in any stream, Engineering Minor Thesis 1 (9 units) and Engineering Minor Thesis 2 (9 units)
Six courses (27 units) from courses listed in the Program Schedule of Courses in any stream
Students must complete courses to the value of 27 units from their nominated stream in order to graduate with a stream specialisation.

Rules & notes

Rules

1. Credit to a maximum of 18 units will be given to students who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Engineering (LCEE) program at UniSA.

2. Credit to a maximum of 36 units will be given to students who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (LGEE) program at UniSA.

3. In other cases, credit may be given to students who completed postgraduate level courses in addition to their undergraduate study, subject to the approval of the Program Director.Such credit will not be granted for more than one third of the total units of the program.

4. Where there is significant overlap of contents between courses offered as part of Masters of Engineering and courses completed as part of undergraduate study, students are required to enrol in courses that have no such overlap.

Notes

1. Upon successful completion of 8 courses (36 units) from the Master of Engineering schedule, students may elect to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Engineering degree.

2. Upon successful completion of 4 courses (18 units) from the Master of Engineering schedule, students may elect to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Engineering degree.

3. The Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice (Microsystems Technology) provides a pathway for subsequent entry to this program and both awards can be completed in two years of full time study or part time equivalent

4. Courses selected by a student must form a coherent discipline stream subject to the approval of the Program Director.

5. Engineering Research Practice is a compulsory course for students who will undertake Engineering Minor Thesis 1 & 2.Students not undertaking Engineering Minor Thesis 1 & 2 may choose any course listed in the Program Schedule of Courses.Eligible students for the Engineering Minor Thesis will be identified and notified after the first study period by the Program Director.Subject to approval of the Program Director, students will normally be eligible to enrol in Minor Thesis 1 & 2 subject to achieving a Grade Point Average of 5.5

6. in justified cases, and subject to the approval from the Program Director, students may be permitted to enrol in courses offered as part of other programs, e.g. LMST ¿ Master of Engineering (Systems Engineering) or (Test and Evaluation).
