The Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business (Commercial Law) provides graduates with the education and skills necessary to be accountants in public practice, commerce and industry, and the public sector, and provides a professional education to those who wish to pursue a career that combines the knowledge and skills of financial reporting together with a legal education focusing on business and consumer law.

Content & Structure

Students undertake the Division core courses and then majors in Commerce and Commercial Law. The program requires completion of courses totalling 144 units.

    Rules

    1. The program comprises: a Division core of eight courses; two major sequences specific to the program; ten elective courses from within the Division.

    Notes

    1. All Division core courses will be offered in both the first and second half of the year.

    2. Accounting Major course

    4. Course may be used to complete; an eight course major in another business and management discipline; or any combination of a four course minor in another discipline, and a four course stream in Commerce and/or Commercial Law; or two different four course minors from within the Division; or a range of courses from within the Schools in the Division of Business.

    5. Students who wish to satisfy the educational requirements for admission to the professional program of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (to qualify as a chartered accountant) must take the professional accounting minor which comprises: COML 2005 Companies and Partnership Law (taken in study period 5 of second year) and ACCT 3005 Auditing Theory and Practice (taken in study period 2 of third year) and ACCT 3002 Taxation Law 1 (taken in study period 2 of third year).

    6. Students who wish to satisfy the educational requirements for admission to the professional program of CPA Australia (to qualify as a CPA) must complete at least COML 2005 Companies and Partnership Law (taken in study period 5 of second year); and are strongly advised to take : ACCT 3005 Auditing Theory and Practice (taken in study period 2 of third year) and ACCT 3002 Taxation Law 1 (taken in study period 2 of third year)
