    Admission criteria

    The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

    Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

    Applicants are required to have: 
    • Qualified for the SACE; and
    • Recorded achievement in five SACE subjects taken at stage 2 level; and
    • Inculded at least four stage 2 subjects which are approved Higher Education Selection Subjects (HESS); and
    • Obtained a competitive TER.

    Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have one of the following qualifications:
    • Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE; or
    • Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution*; or
    • Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level*; or
    • Completed a recognised diploma or advanced diploma from TAFE; or
    • Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
    • Completed the University Foundation Studies Program with a competitive GPA; or
    • Qualified for Special Entry.
    * Normally applicants with a grade point average of 4** or better will be recognised for entry.
    ** A GPA of 4 refers to the UniSA grading scale which has a range of 1 - 7, other Australian and international grading scales will be considered.

Aim

This program provide graduates with a fundamental understanding of the skills, knowledge and attributes to successfully plan, operate and manage small to medium enterprises and/or to begin and to build their own business enterprises in productive, yet socially responsible ways.

Content & Structure

The Bachelor of Business and Enterprise is a structured program which provides a broad yet fundamental understanding of key business discipline areas through the Division of Business' eight core courses. It also provides two 7 course specialisation sequences; the specialisations are 'accounting and finance' and 'small to medium enterprise management'. Students complete the 8 core courses, the two 7 course specialisations, a cultural awareness course, a free elective choice, and the capstone practicum course. A total of 108 units are required to complete the program.

    Rules

    1. The program comprises: a division core of eight courses; two specialisation sequences totalling 9 courses specific to the program; a capstone course of 9 units value; four elective courses; and one course inclusive of indigenous customs and culture.

    Notes

    1. The division core comprises eight courses. The Centre for Regional Engagement only offers these courses in the study period indicated in the program schedule. The core comprises: ACCT 1008 Accounting for Business; BUSS 1058 Communication and information Systems in Society; COML 1001 Foundations of Business Law; BUSS 1057 Business and Society; MATH 1053 Quantitative Methods for Business; MARK 1010 Marketing Principles: Trading and Exchange; ECON 1008 Principles of Economics; and BUSS 1054 Management Principles.

    2. Students who wish to undertake the accounting discipline strand will choose as Electives the following two courses: ACCT 2005 Financial Accounting 2; and ACCT 3007 Financial Accounting 3. The accounting specialisation sequence comprises: ACCT 1008 Accounting for Business (also in the division core); ACCT 1006 Financial Accounting 1; ACCT 2005 Financial Accounting 2 (chosen as Elective); ACCT 3007 Financial Accounting 3 (chosen as Elective); BANK 2005 Finance and Investment; ACCT 2006 Management Accounting; and COML 2005 Companies and Partnership Law.

    3. The Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) specialisation sequence comprises: MARK 1010 Marketing Principles: Trading and Exchange; MARK 2026 Marketing for Services; ACCT 2011 Small Business Accounting; INFS 2019 Introduction to e-Business; BUSS 3001 Small Enterprise Management EF; BUSS 3011 Enterprise and Business Creation; and BUSS 3043 Entrepreneurial Enterprises.

    4. The capstone course is: BUSS 3010 Industry Project 1 and is only offered in Study Period 5. All Bachelor of Business and Enterprise students are eligible to undertake this course when they have: 1) completed at least 72 units of study and, (2) have agreement from the Course Coordinator who will arrange a project with a regional SME.

    5. Electives may be offered in alternate years and include: BUSS 1053 Occupational Health and Safety Management; BUSS 2043 Foundations of Human Resource Management; ACCT 2005 Financial Accounting 2; ACCT 3007 Financial Accounting 3; and with the approval of the course director, any other course offered through the Centre for regional engagement where the prerequisites are satisfied.

    6. The indigenous customs and culture course is: WELS 2015 Indigenous Australians and the Human Services.

    7. Students who complete the program requirements of the Associate Degree in Accounting or the Associate Degree in Business Ventures may exit the Bachelor of Business and Enterprise with one of these awards.
