Entry requirements

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and
- completed 200 credits of subjects;
- achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
- achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
- obtained a competitive ATAR.
* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required
Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have one of the following qualifications:
- Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE; or
- Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution*; or
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level*; or
- Completed a recognised diploma or advanced diploma from TAFE; or
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
- Completed the University Foundation Studies Program with a competitive GPA; or
- Qualified for Special Entry.
* Normally applicants with a grade point average of 4** or better will be recognised for entry.
** A GPA of 4 refers to the UniSA grading scale which has a range of 1 - 7, other equivalent Australian and international grading scales will be considered.

Aim

The Bachelor of Applied Finance provides graduates with specialist knowledge in applied finance that is appropriate to the needs of managerial personnel in financial institutions or in areas of business such as treasury, financial planning and small business management, and the potential to proceed to the honours program and other postgraduate study.

Content & Structure

Students undertake the Division Core and then a major in applied finance. In addition, students can undertake the professional sequence in applied finance and must complete 108 units to satisfy the requirements of the program.

1. The program is comprised of a Division wide core of eight courses; and an applied finance core of eight courses specific to the program; and eight elective courses.

Notes

1. For delivery through Hong Kong Baptist University and Taylors College, BANK 2005 Finance and Investment is offered as an alternative course to BANK 2007 Business Finance.

2. For students who gain entry with a diploma in a related area from the Hong Kong Baptist University School of Continuing Education will normally receive credit for MARK 1010 Marketing Principles: Trading and Exchange; BUSS 1054 Introduction to Management; INS 1011 Business Information Systems; and for 5 elective courses.

3. For students studying at Taylors College: all Division core courses will be offered in both the first half and the second half of the year.

4. For students studying at Taylors College: with the permission of the Program Drector, students may use the professional sequence/elective courses to complete: a second major of eight courses from within the Division; or one minor of four courses and four elective courses from within the Division; or courses from outside the Division including one minor of up to a maximum of 4 courses can be taken from Communication courses offered by the School of Communication at Taylors College. These courses are: COMM 1055 Public Relations 1 CMM; COMM 1043 Issues in Publication and Design; and COMM 3006 Advertising: Images, Industry and Audience; or two minors of four courses each from within the Divsion.

5. Minors will be limited to courses from the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Management (Marketing) and Bachelor of Business (Information Systems) programs. Students may also select a minor from Communication courses offered by the UniSA School of Communication at Taylors College. These courses are: COMM 1055 Public Relations 1 CMM; COMM 2037 Public Relations 2; COMM 1043 Issues in Publication and Design; and COMM 3006 Advertising: Images, Industry and Audience.

6. Students at Taylor's College will study BUSS 1058 Communication and Information Systems in Business. Students from Hong Kong Baptist University will undertaken COMM 1054 Managing Communication in Business.
