Aim

The aim of this program is to provide introductory professional journalism education for graduates wishing to pursue a career in mainstream journalism or allied fields. The Graduate Certificate in Journalism may stand alone or it may also be used as the first 18 units towards the Graduate Diploma in Journalism (36 units).

Content & Structure

The program comprises 18 units of study made up of four 4.5 unit courses. As is appropriate in a postgraduate certificate, there is a breadth of offerings covering fundamental aspects of journalism practice and principles, including ethical dimensions and contemporary issues such as new communications technologies. This certificate provides a sound basis from which students may progress to more advanced, specialised or analytical work in the Graduate Diploma in Journalism or the Master of Arts (Journalism).
