Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have:
- A completed four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent;
- A minimum of three years relevant work experience (see note 1);
- A letter of support from the applicant’s employer.
OR
- A completed three-year Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline2 from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent;
- A minimum of five years relevant work experience (see note 1);
- A letter of support from the applicant’s employer.
OR
- A completed Graduate Certificate degree in a related discipline(see note 3) from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent;
- A minimum of five years relevant work experience(see note 1);
- A letter of support from the applicant’s employer.
  
  Note 1: “Relevant work experience” will normally be employment directly related to a broad range of recognized engineering functions and all decisions on the appropriateness of work experience will be made by the Program Director.
  
  Note 2: A “Relevant technical discipline” will normally include those disciplines with a strong focus on physical sciences, technology, design and/or software. All decisions on the appropriateness of three-year Bachelor’s degrees will be made by the Program Director.
  
  Note 3: A “Related discipline” here encompasses the broad spectrum of engineering roles and functions, including, for example, technical design, logistics, maintenance, testing and commissioning of complex systems. All decisions on the appropriateness of work experience in a related discipline will be made by the Program Director.

Aim

The aim of the Graduate Diploma of Engineering Practice program is to prepare students for senior technical and engineering leadership roles in organisations with a focus on identifying, defining and solving complex socio-technical problems.

Content & Structure

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering Practice program (36 units) has two parallel specialisations. After completing a common core of four courses (Graduate Certificate in Engineering Practice, 18 units), students can specialise in either Engineering Systems Management, or a Defence Systems.

The complete set of available courses in this program is shown in the tables below. The first table describes the structure of the Engineering Systems Management specialisation, and the second table indicates the structure of the Defence Systems specialisation.

Some specialisation courses are provided by ANU through cross-institutional enrolment. A reciprocal arrangement has been made, as part of the Hubs and Spokes Project, to make UniSA courses available as electives to ANU students.

Notes

1. The primary mode of delivery for the courses in this program is a blend of synchronous and asynchronous online delivery. However, each course includes a one-day, face-to-face workshop. Workshops take place over two days in early February and late July. One day is devoted to each course that follows in the subsequent six month period. Workshops will normally take place at the campus of the University that is responsible for delivery of the course in question. In the event that a student is unable to travel to attend the workshop, alternative mechanisms exist to make the course content available to the student. This includes recording of sessions and providing students with copies of lecturer material. However, students are strongly encouraged to attend the workshops, and to make this requirement known to their employer.

2. It is expected that all students in this program will study part-time. Students will normally study a maximum of four courses in a given calendar year.

3. Subject to pre-requisite requirements, students may begin the program in either February (Study Period 1) or July (Study Period 5).

4. Courses in this program are offered in study periods 1, 3, 5 and 7.
