Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and

completed 200 credits of subjects;
achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
obtained a competitive ATAR.

* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for University entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, obtaining a minimum score of 24 points and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the University Foundation Studies program

* Normally applicants with a grade point average of 4** or better will be recognised for entry.
** A GPA of 4 refers to the UniSA grading scale which has a range of 1 - 7, other Australian and international grading scales will be considered.

Aim

The leisure industries (sport, recreation, tourism, arts) are dynamic, growing and global. The increased professionalism and growth in these industries means that continuing employment options for graduates exist in an enormous range of areas. The Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management program will provide students with the skills, knowleges and qualities to work in a wide range of areas. These include sport management, event management, lesisure management, recreation planning, outdoor recreation and tourism.

Content & Structure

Courses in the program include the philosophy of leisure, leadership in sport and recreation, sport governance, facilities management, programming and event management, sport and recreation administration, marketing, economics and law, strategic management, research and evaluation.

Rules

1. The program comprises: a division core of eight courses; a school core of two courses; a major sequence of four courses specific to the program; a specialisation stream of four courses in either sport or recreation; and six electives.

Notes

1. The program is offered on a three year full time basis. The program can also be taken on a part time basis.

2. Students will choose either the Sport stream or the Recreation stream, and complete four courses. Refer to electives listing.

3. The elective courses are free choice, but may be used to complete: practicums - ENVT 2002 Management Practicum 1 or ENVT 3001 Management Practicum 2; a relevant minor sequence (for example Event Management or Recreation Planning); an international exchange; the remaining stream of either Sport or Recreation; or any combination of courses offered within the Division of Business. Any electives selected from outside the Division of Business are subject to approval by the Program Director. At least two 4.5 unit elective courses should be at second or third year level.
