- a completed Bachelors degree in a health science area from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent qualification; AND
- a minimum of two years full-time, or equivalent, work/professional/clinical experience in a health science related area, following completion of an undergraduate degree in the professional area.

Aim

The Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Health Service Management) aims to advance discipline knowledge to health science graduates and professionals for leadership in their chosen fields. The program advances management knowledge, critical thinking, and analysis and leadership skills for functioning in a complex health system.

Content & Structure

The program requires completion of 18 units of study. Students will complete 9 units of core courses and 9 units of elective courses.

Rules

1. Students who have a background, or previous studies in a particular course, may substitute a course of equal value and standing, with the approval of the Program Director.

2. Applications for credit, exemption and/or studies in lieu will be considered in accordance with the University of South Australia's, Policy No: A-13 Recognition of prior learning (Appendix A - Credit transfer framework for the recognition of prior learning from formal studies at other education and training providers and/or work or life experience). These applications will be considered by the Head of School or nominee.

Notes

1. The program is normally completed in 6 months full-time or the part-time equivalent (international students can only study full-time). All courses are offered subject to achieving viable enrolment numbers and therefore may not be offered every year

2. Health Service Management electives may include courses available at University of South Australia and cross-institutionally at Flinders University, the University of Adelaide or any other Australian university, subject to approval by the Program Director.
