Applicants are required to have:
- a completed Bachelor degree or graduate entry qualification in a health science area from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent; AND
- a minimum of four years full-time, or equivalent, work/professional/clinical experience in an allied health practice area. Evidence of a minimum of four years work history will need to be substantiated by the applicant; AND
- be able to demonstrate fitness to practice in the area of of their undergraduate or graduate entry qualification either through current registration or membership of the relevant professional association.

Aim

The Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Advanced and Extended Practice) aims to help prepare experienced allied health graduates for advanced and extended scope of practice roles. The program aims to increase knowledge, clinical skills, clinical reasoning, and expertise relevant to advanced and extended scope of practice for allied health practitioners.

Content & Structure

Students will undertake courses in critical thinking and reasoning, pharmacology and image interpretation. The program culminates in an advanced allied health study designed to provide the opportunity for students to advance and extend their skills and knowledge within a defined area.

Students will be required to successfully complete 18 units for the award.

Rules

1. Students must complete the courses HLTH 5141 Critical Thinking and Reasoning in Health, PHAR 5041 Pharmacology for Health Professionals and RADY 5028 Image Interpretation for Health Professionals before enrolling in HLTH 5163 Advanced Allied Health Study.

2. Evidence of current medical malpractice and professional indemnity insurance may be required prior to undertaking the course HLTH 5163 Advanced Allied Health Study.

3. Students who have previous studies in a particular course, may substitute a course of equal value and standing, with approval from the Program Director.

4. Credit for previous studies may be granted in accordance with University policy. Maximum credit allowed is normally one third of the total units of the program. Credit is granted subject to the approval of the Program Director.

5. Academic performance will be monitored by the Program Management Team, which reports to School Board.

Notes

1. The program is only available on a part-time basis.

2. Students may enrol in appropriate cross-institutional courses in place of HLTH 5163 Advanced Allied Health Study, subject to approval by the Program Director.
