Course aim

To give students the skills to understand the major issues for the provision of readers' advisory and reading in schools and public libraries for adults, children, and young adults; including how to develop an inclusive, relevant and community focussed collection.

Course content

Evaluate and analyse a range of fiction and nonfiction for adults, adolescents, and children in various formats (print and digital). Differentiate and examine how different materials impact and reflect the society and engage in debate about what people should and should not read. Management of collections in a digital environment including selection and deselection of electronic and print materials. Marketing, censorship and intellectual property of collections and readers advisory. Developmental reading for all ages in order to tailor readers’ advisory suggestions.
