Product Design: History, Culture and Context

Course aim

To develop students’ understanding of the historical evolution, theory and cultural impact of modern product design in the context of the social, environmental, and ethical considerations of design practice.

Course content

Students will be introduced to a broad knowledge of the social, cultural, and technological changes that have shaped modern product design, from the Industrial Revolution through to contemporary times. Students will develop an understanding of key design movements and theories, significant practitioners, exemplary works of design and social and technological changes in relation to product design and design practice.
